DPR Building Goes Dark: Lights Turned Off at 6 PM Due to Efficiency Measures
Several points and areas in the DPR/MPR parliamentary complex are dark following an efficiency circular issued by the DPR General Secretariat on 27 March. Observations show that the main corridors, from Nusantara I, II, III to V, appear dark due to lights not being turned on approaching evening around 6.30 PM WIB. Not only corridor and lobby lights, but several main escalators in the same area have been switched off since 4.00 PM WIB. According to the commission or council apparatus meeting schedule, meetings have ended by around 5.00 PM WIB, even though commission meetings usually run until approaching evening. Commission III, which held four marathon meetings, finished as early as 3.30 PM WIB, with sessions kept brief at an average of less than one hour. The DPR General Secretariat previously issued a Circular numbered 651/KU.04.02/3/2026, containing efficiency measures for the use of operational facilities in the parliamentary complex environment. The instruction, issued on 27 March 2026, is addressed to high-level leaders in the secretariat and DPR leadership. Several facilities affected by the efficiency or savings include electricity use in the office environment by switching off power when no longer in use, at the latest by 6.00 PM local time. Then, operations of room cooling (air conditioners), lifts, and escalators that run only until 6.00 PM WIB, and savings on telephone and water adjusted to needs.
