Jakarta – The Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Budget Committee (Banggar DPR RI), Said Abdullah, believes the government needs to improve the distribution of subsidies for 3 kilogram (kg) LPG or liquefied petroleum gas to ensure it is targeted accurately. One method, he said, is to conduct purchases of 3 kg LPG through a biometric verification system such as fingerprints up to retina scans. This step, according to Said, is necessary to prevent any subsidy leakages and ensure distribution reaches the rightful recipients. “What is needed is for the 3 kg LPG subsidy to be targeted accurately,” Said told reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 6 April 2026. According to Said, the distribution of this LPG subsidy cannot rely solely on government data. A multi-layered verification system is required to ensure the subsidy distribution is accurate for entitled communities. “The method is not just that the government has SEN data, but also repeatedly verify with fingerprints or retina scans for those entitled to receive the 3 kg LPG cylinder,” he stated. Said then revealed data calculations from the DPR Budget Committee indicating that the number of 3 kg LPG subsidy recipients is smaller compared to the allocated budget. Therefore, Said hopes that through this multi-layered verification system, the distribution of 3 kg LPG subsidies will be more efficient and targeted.
