DPR Appoints Replacement Ombudsman Member for Hery Susanto

The 26th plenary session of the House of Representatives (DPR) during its fifth sitting period has confirmed a replacement member of the Ombudsman to succeed Hery Susanto, who was ensnared in a corruption case involving nickel mining governance in Southeast Sulawesi for the 2013-2025 period.

The confirmation session referred to a letter from the leadership of DPR Commission II, Number B-39613 dated 20 July 2026, concerning the appointment of an interim replacement member of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2026-2031 term of office.

“For this reason, we ask for the approval of the factions: can the appointment of the interim replacement member of the Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2026-2031 term be approved?” said Speaker of the House Puan Maharani, who presided over the session, on Tuesday (21 July).

Even so, the session did not disclose the identity of the new figure replacing Hery. When met after the session, Deputy Speaker of the House Saan Mustopa also admitted he did not know the name of the new member who would fill one of the nine slots on the Ombudsman.

“There should already be a name, surely. It is just a matter of order. So later it is just about the ranking, since the Ombudsman has nine members,” said Saan.

Under the prevailing rules, based on the results of the fit and proper test, in addition to confirming nine members of the Ombudsman for the 2026-2031 period, the DPR also confirmed ten other names to be prepared as replacements.

They are, in order: Wahidah Suaib, Radian Syam, I Gusti Ngurah Agung Yuliarta Endrawan, Muhammad Nurkhoiron, Nazir Salim Manik, Faisal Amir, AH Maftuchan, Dian Rubianty, and Asnifriyanti Damanik.

As such, in accordance with the rules, Wahidah Suaib is the replacement for Hery.

“Yes, she automatically moves up. So it happens straight away,” said Saan.
