DPR Applauds Police Task Force for Swift Action Against Smuggling
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR), Habiburokhman, has expressed appreciation for the National Police’s Anti-Smuggling Law Enforcement Task Force (Satgas Gakkum Lundup) for its rapid response to President Prabowo Subianto’s orders to eradicate all forms of smuggling in the country.
“Within just four days of the President’s instruction being issued, the National Police has demonstrated extraordinary performance that has a significant impact on national economic stability. It is a swift movement that deserves our praise,” he stated in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday.
He highlighted a significant case uncovered by the task force involving the smuggling of 57,000 illegal mobile phone units, which caused potential losses to the state estimated at Rp253 billion. Other cases successfully uncovered include illegal onion imports in West Kalimantan and the import of second-hand clothing in Bali.
“We hope this momentum is maintained, pursued to the very roots, and does not slacken,” he said.
The legislator also extended his gratitude to the Chief of National Police, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and all members of the Anti-Smuggling Task Force for their success in uncovering these smuggling cases.
“Continue working to protect the law, the community, and the nation’s economy,” he added.
The National Police Anti-Smuggling Task Force has saved the state treasury nearly Rp1 trillion from various illegal import cases since its formation by General Listyo Sigit Prabowo in April 2026.
The Director of Special Economic Crimes at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim), Brigadier General Ade Safri Simanjuntak, explained several cases uncovered by the task force, including the smuggling of used iPhones and Android devices.
The task force raided four locations in North Jakarta and Sidoarjo, East Java, on 15–16 April 2026, seizing approximately 50,000 units of iPhones and Android devices, along with LCDs, batteries, and other components, valued at around Rp250 billion.
Additionally, the task force seized approximately 256,300 units of baby supplies and children’s toys valued at around Rp3 billion. He stated that these goods, shipped from China, India, and the Netherlands, are suspected to have entered Indonesia without official quarantine documents, import permits, or valid trade documents. The annual business turnover is estimated to reach approximately Rp24.96 billion.
Prior to the task force’s formation, in December 2025, Ade noted that a National Police team uncovered a case of second-hand clothing imports from South Korea in Tabanan Regency, Bali. In this illegal importation crime, the police arrested two individuals, identified by the initials ZT and SB, who were subsequently named suspects.
He stated that the police also seized 846 bales of second-hand clothing from South Korea valued at Rp3.5 billion. The total value of illegal import transactions carried out by the two suspects between 2021 and 2025 reached Rp669 billion.
