DPR Applauds Police Task Force for Swift Action Against Smuggling

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chairman of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Habiburokhman, has praised the Police’s Law Enforcement Task Force for Smuggling (Satgas Gakkum Lundup) for its swift action in following up on President Prabowo Subianto’s orders to eradicate all forms of smuggling in the country. “In just four days after the President’s instruction was issued, the National Police have demonstrated extraordinary and real performance that has a major impact on national economic stability. This is a rapid response that deserves praise,” he said in a statement received in Jakarta on Monday. He noted that a significant case uncovered by the task force was the smuggling of 57,000 illegal mobile phones, which had the potential to cause state losses estimated at Rp253 billion. Other cases uncovered included the illegal import of onions in West Kalimantan and the import of used clothing in Bali. “We hope this momentum is maintained, pursued to its roots, and does not slacken,” he said. The legislator also expressed his gratitude to National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo and all ranks of the Satgas Gakkum Lundup for successfully uncovering a number of smuggling cases. “Keep working to protect the law, society, and the nation’s economy,” he said. The Satgas Gakkum Lundup has saved state finances of almost Rp1 trillion from various illegal import cases since it was formed by National Police Chief General Pol. Listyo Sigit Prabowo in April 2026. The Director of Special Economic Crimes (Dirtipideksus) at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police, Brigadier General Pol. Ade Safri Simanjuntak, explained a number of cases uncovered by the task force, including the smuggling of used iPhones and Android phones. The task force raided four locations in North Jakarta and Sidoarjo, East Java, on 15–16 April 2026 and seized around 50,000 units of iPhones and Android phones along with LCDs, batteries, and other components worth around Rp250 billion. In addition, the Lundup Task Force also seized around 256,300 units of baby equipment and children’s toys worth around Rp3 billion. He said the goods, sent from China, India, and the Netherlands, were suspected of entering Indonesia without official quarantine documents, import documents, or valid trade documents. The estimated business turnover reached around Rp24.96 billion per year. Meanwhile, prior to the task force’s formation, in December 2025, Ade said the National Police team had uncovered a case of importing used clothing from South Korea in Tabanan Regency, Bali. In this criminal act of illegal importation, the Police arrested two individuals with the initials ZT and SB, who were subsequently named as suspects. He said the Police also seized 846 bales of used clothing from South Korea worth Rp3.5 billion. The total illegal import transactions carried out by the two suspects during the 2021 to 2025 period reached Rp669 billion.
