Jakarta - A member of Commission VIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Dini Rahmania, urged the government to anticipate potential disruptions to haj and umrah flights in light of rising escalations in the Middle East. ‘The development of the situation should be a shared concern, especially in ensuring the protection of Indonesian umrah pilgrims and prospective haj pilgrims,’ she said in Jakarta on Thursday. The legislator for East Java’s electoral district II called on the state to ensure that Indonesian haj and umrah pilgrims who are currently undertaking or planning to perform the pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia are safe and receive information that is clear, accurate, and transparent. Moreover, Dini reminded that oversight of the Penyelenggara Perjalanan Ibadah Umrah (PPIU) must be tightened to guarantee pilgrims’ rights. Earlier, the Kementerian Haji dan Umrah (Kemenhaj) RI held a meeting with several stakeholders involved in the organisation of umrah to respond to the security dynamics in the Middle East impacting umrah travel and produced 10 commitments.
