DPR and Government to Coordinate Regularly on Layoff Mitigation, Says Dasco
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad affirmed the parliament’s commitment to working with the government to mitigate the issue of layoffs (PHK) in the country.
“The PHK Mitigation Task Force, comprising the government and the DPR, will meet regularly to coordinate,” Dasco said during a press conference at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Friday.
Dasco made the statement following a coordination meeting with the PHK Mitigation Task Force. He explained that the daily coordination between the DPR and the government would be led by Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal.
During the press conference, it was announced that Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi had been appointed as the Chair of the PHK Mitigation Task Force. Prasetyo stated that his team had begun mapping industrial problems to prevent a wave of layoffs. The Task Force will cooperate with the National Police’s Employment Desk on this mapping.
According to Prasetyo, layoffs are not concentrated in a particular sector, as the underlying problems are varied. “There are cases, for example, where demand has fallen. There are also problems with capital, where funds are held in a troubled banking institution. This creates problems for the company, even though the company itself is actually very healthy. Simply because of issues with another institution in the banking sector, it also gets into trouble,” Prasetyo said.
Therefore, the Task Force will map out these various issues in detail. For companies with the potential to conduct layoffs, the Task Force will carry out mitigation on a case-by-case basis. Additionally, the Task Force is also paying attention to companies that have already laid off workers but have not yet fulfilled their obligations.
“We will mitigate one by one because the problem of layoffs is not always related to raw material supply issues, such as gas or coal. Sometimes there are also internal company management conflicts, but whatever the cause, it is our duty to jointly carry out mitigation,” he said.
The government officials present at the meeting included Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Manpower Yassierli, President of the All-Indonesia Workers’ Union Confederation (KSPSI) Andi Gani Nena Wea, Special Advisor to the President of the Republic of Indonesia on Manpower and Labour Welfare Said Iqbal, and the National Police’s Employment Desk.
