DPR and Government Guarantee No Layoffs for Regional PPPK Workers
Jakarta, VIVA – Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Bahtra Banong, has affirmed that the government will not carry out dismissals (redundancies) or salary reductions for Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) in the regions.
He explained that Commission II had requested the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to ensure regional governments implement budget efficiency.
“Because, you see, many of the programmes of regional apparatus organisations (OPD) are not based on efficiency. So we have requested guidance from the Ministry of Home Affairs,” said Bahtra at the DPR building in Central Jakarta, quoted on Wednesday, 5 August 2026.
The efficiency policy is capable of saving budgets amounting to billions of rupiah. He said the funds saved through efficiency measures would later be reallocated to more pressing needs.
Nevertheless, he received information that some regions had been affected by the efficiency drive, impacting PPPK salaries, including those of civil servants (ASN) themselves.
However, Bahtra said the DPR, together with the government, had agreed not to dismiss PPPK.
“We affirm once again that the DPR together with the government has taken the decision that PPPK will not be laid off, whether full-time or part-time,” he said.
He also stressed that the government would not reduce civil servants’ salaries, despite the budget efficiency policy.
“Moreover, there is an issue claiming that our civil servants’ salaries will be cut, for instance to fund PPPK — there is absolutely no such thing,” Bahtra concluded.
