DPR and APKASI Discuss Budget Efficiency and Regional Development

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal received an audience from the leadership of the Association of Regency Governments Across Indonesia (APKASI) in the Leadership Room of the Nusantara III Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 24 July 2026. The meeting served as a dialogue forum on regional governance and the DPR RI’s support for accelerating development across the country’s regencies.

Cucun said the DPR RI is opening its doors as widely as possible for APKASI and all regents to convey their aspirations. According to him, input from APKASI is important material for the DPR RI in pushing policies that favour the acceleration of regional development.

“We in the DPR RI are here to listen directly to the voices of the regents. The aspirations conveyed by APKASI today are important input for us to keep pushing budget policies that side with the acceleration of regional development,” said Cucun.

One of the main issues raised in the meeting was the budget efficiency policy, which has recently sparked public debate. APKASI Chairman Bursah Zarnubi said the policy must still leave room for regional governments to maintain the quality of basic services, particularly in education, health and infrastructure.

“We appreciate the dialogue space given by the DPR RI leadership today. APKASI hopes that future budget efficiency policies will still give regions room to maintain the quality of basic services for the public, from education and health to infrastructure,” said Bursah.

In response, the DPR RI said it understands the developing dynamics and affirmed its commitment to collaborate with the government in formulating policies that support the acceleration of regional development. Dasco said the outcome of the dialogue with APKASI will be material for the DPR RI’s deliberations as it coordinates with the central government, so that the budget efficiency policy remains aligned with regional development needs.

Through the meeting, the DPR RI reaffirmed its commitment to continue strengthening synergy with the government and regency administrations in pushing effective budget policies to accelerate development and improve public welfare across the regions.
