DPR and APKASI Discuss Budget Efficiency and Regional Development

Deputy Speakers of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, received the board of the Association of Indonesian Regency Governments (APKASI) at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, 24 July 2026. The meeting served as a dialogue forum on regional governance and the DPR’s support for accelerating development across various regencies. Cucun stated that the DPR provides ample space for APKASI and all regents to voice their aspirations. He noted that the inputs from APKASI are crucial for the DPR in promoting policies that favour the acceleration of regional development. “We in the DPR are here to listen directly to the voices of the regents. The aspirations from APKASI today are important inputs for us to continue pushing for budget policies that favour the acceleration of regional development,” Cucun said. One of the main issues raised during the meeting was the budget efficiency policy, which has recently sparked public debate. APKASI Chairman Bursah Zarnubi stated that the policy must still provide room for local governments to maintain the quality of basic services, particularly in the education, health, and infrastructure sectors. “We appreciate the dialogue space provided by the DPR leadership today. APKASI hopes that future budget efficiency policies will continue to give regions room to maintain the quality of basic services for the community, from education and health to infrastructure,” Bursah said. In response, the DPR acknowledged the evolving dynamics and affirmed its commitment to collaborating with the government in formulating policies that support the acceleration of regional development. Dasco stated that the results of the dialogue with APKASI would serve as material for the DPR’s discussions in coordinating with the central government, ensuring that budget efficiency policies remain aligned with regional development needs.
