DPR Agrees to Appoint Sarjito as Chief Executive of Mineral Exchange Supervisor, Here Is His Profile
Commission XI of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia has agreed to appoint Sarjito as Chief Executive of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange Supervisory Body for the 2026-2031 period.
The decision was made after Commission XI conducted a fit and proper test on Sarjito.
“Yes, that is correct (appointing Sarjito), for the 2026-2031 period,” said Deputy Chairman of Commission XI Muhammad Haekal when confirmed by journalists in Jakarta on Monday.
Furthermore, Sarjito’s appointment as Chief Executive of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange Supervisory Body will be brought to the DPR Plenary Session on Thursday (27/8/2026) for official approval.
During the fit and proper test at Commission XI, Sarjito explained that he had prepared eight strategic policies to build a liquid and trustworthy exchange capable of strengthening Indonesia’s market sovereignty.
According to him, the development of the exchange must be directed so that Indonesia no longer remains merely a price taker, but can gradually become a price influencer and eventually a price maker in the global mineral and strategic commodities market.
He emphasised that building the exchange requires trust from the outset because the preparation time is relatively limited.
“This is a very heavy mandate considering the time is already very tight, only a few months left. Therefore, we must build trust,” said Sarjito.
He expressed hope that prices formed through the exchange can serve as a reference for the market and strengthen Indonesia’s position in global mineral and strategic commodity trade.
According to him, strengthening the exchange must ultimately be returned to the constitutional mandate, namely ensuring that Indonesia’s natural wealth is managed for the greatest prosperity of the people.
On Monday (24/8/2026), Sarjito underwent a fit and proper test for the position of Chief Executive of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange Supervisory Body for the 2026-2031 period at Commission XI, from 14.30 WIB to 16.00 WIB.
For information, Sarjito last served as Deputy Commissioner for Education and Consumer Protection at the Financial Services Authority as well as Chairman of the PASTI Task Force before retiring in 2024.
Previously, Sarjito served as Head of the Formal and Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Capital Market Supervisory Agency at the Ministry of Finance.
Sarjito earned a Bachelor of Laws degree with a specialisation in Legal Practice from the Faculty of Law at the University of Indonesia. He also earned a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Economics at Gadjah Mada University and obtained an MBA in finance from Saint Louis University, Missouri, United States.
