DPR Affirms Child Welfare is a Shared Responsibility on National Children's Day 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR RI) Coordinating the People’s Welfare Sector, Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, has affirmed on the occasion of National Children’s Day (HAN) 2026 that child welfare is a shared responsibility of all parties.
In a statement in Jakarta on Friday, he said a number of challenges must be addressed through collective effort, including stunting, school dropout, violence and bullying, poverty, and the loss of access to basic services.
“It is our shared responsibility to overcome these challenges. Government policy, DPR oversight, and the work of every element of the nation must ensure that every challenge facing children can be resolved quickly,” he said.
According to him, national development policy must be able to deliver tangible impact on the lives of families and children as the smallest units of society.
To that end, Cucun urged the government to make improving children’s quality of life one of the primary measures in evaluating the success of social welfare policy.
He also stressed the importance of every state policy demonstrating measurable impact on family social protection, improved nutritional quality, access to education and health, and the availability of a safe and decent environment for children’s growth and development.
“And we believe the government under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto will always strive to deliver programmes that support children’s development,” he said.
He also encouraged the government to strengthen synergy between economic policy, social protection, education, health, and regional development so that all welfare improvement programmes do not operate in isolation.
Poverty alleviation policy, settlement development, the provision of decent living environments, a good health service system, and equitable access to education must all be seen as a single whole in order to improve the quality of life of future generations.
“We in the DPR RI will continue to safeguard every programme and ensure that every budget allocation and government policy truly delivers benefits that can be felt by the public, especially in improving children’s quality of life,” he said.
He noted that the development of Indonesian people’s welfare can be reflected in children’s development, because public welfare is not measured solely by economic development but also by improvements in children’s quality of life.
The commemoration of HAN 2026 is a moment to make child welfare a measure of the people’s welfare. The paradigm that public welfare must begin with child welfare deserves to become the roadmap for national development.
“When every child grows up healthy and receives proper nutrition, learns well, and lives in a safe environment far from violence and bullying, then in truth the state is building a foundation of sustainable welfare for all the Indonesian people,” said Cucun.
