DPR Accommodates Student Aspirations on Fuel and Free Nutritious Meals
Jakarta - The leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) received and immediately followed up on a number of aspirations conveyed by representatives of student elements during an audience at the DPR/MPR RI Building, Jakarta, on Friday. Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that his party had interacted and communicated well with students from HMI MPO, Trisakti University, Mercu Buana University, Esa Unggul University, and several other campuses. “These aspirations were conveyed to the DPR in the context of carrying out our oversight duties to then be forwarded to the government,” Dasco said after being met in Jakarta on Friday. On the same occasion, Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, Saan Mustopa, detailed a number of points of student demands that were directly responded to by the council leadership by contacting the relevant executive officials directly in front of the student representatives. Regarding demands for economic stability, particularly the issue of subsidised fuel oil scarcity and the price dynamics of Pertamax, Saan said the DPR had communicated directly with the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia. “The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources communicated directly and promised to resolve the scarcity of subsidised fuel as soon as possible. Regarding the scheme for lowering the price of Pertamax in line with global improvements, it will also be resolved quickly,” said Saan. Another issue that emerged in the dialogue was the evaluation of the governance of the Free Nutritious Meal programme by the National Nutrition Agency. “From the results of the evaluation and future screening, there are savings of around Rp70 trillion from the MBG programme processes that were deemed inefficient,” Saan added. Shortly after Dasco and Saan descended from the action mass command vehicle, a number of students eventually dispersed.
