DPR Accelerates Asset Forfeiture Bill Debate During Recess
The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) has authorised the continuation of discussions on the Asset Forfeiture Bill during the parliamentary recess. Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that the DPR supports the ongoing deliberation, provided the proper mechanisms are followed.
“We have given permission, especially to Commission III, which has already applied for authorisation to continue discussing the asset forfeiture law,” Dasco said during a plenary session at the DPR building in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.
He addressed speculation circulating on social media that the DPR was reluctant to debate the bill, clarifying that the process has been underway for over two months with continuous public participation.
“We support Commission III in continuing the discussion because the public dynamic suggests the DPR is unwilling to discuss the law, whereas in reality, it has been progressing for more than two months,” he explained.
Previously, Deputy Speaker Saan Mustopa confirmed that the Asset Forfeiture Bill is included in the 2026 Priority National Legislation Programme. He stated that the DPR is targeting to complete the deliberation within the year.
“This is a priority for 2026. We will make every effort to finalise it this year,” Saan said. He added that the DPR is currently gathering extensive input from various elements of society, which is considered crucial for perfecting the draft legislation.
