DPD Visits JK's Residence, Delivers Invitation to MPR Annual Session

The leadership of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) visited the residence of Indonesia’s 10th and 12th Vice President, Jusuf Kalla, in the Brawijaya area of South Jakarta on Wednesday (5/8). The DPD delegation, led by Sultan Baktiar Najamuddin, delivered an invitation letter for the joint annual session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), scheduled to be held on 15 August at the parliamentary complex.

‘It was just an ordinary friendly visit and a brief discussion about the national situation amidst geopolitical dynamics. Mr JK is a national figure, a statesman whose thoughts and advice are still needed by all of us,’ Sultan said in a statement on Thursday (6/8).

Sultan noted that the visit also included discussions on regional development. He observed that JK has long been known as a figure who pays close attention to development in the regions. ‘He is quite focused and attentive to regional development, especially regarding the demand for policy innovation by regional heads in achieving regional fiscal independence,’ he said.

Sultan was accompanied by DPD Deputy Speakers Yoris Raweyai and Tamsil Linrung, along with DPD Secretary General Komjen Pol Muhammad Iqbal. In response, JK confirmed he would set aside time to attend the MPR annual session. ‘God willing, I will make time to attend the joint MPR session,’ he said.

In addition to leaders of government and state institutions, the MPR annual session will be attended by former presidents and vice presidents. Previously, the MPR leadership had also visited several high state institutions to deliver the invitation. Most recently, the MPR leadership, headed by Ahmad Muzani, met with President Prabowo Subianto, where both parties also discussed the discourse on the broad outlines of state policy (PPHN).
