DPD to Host Joint DPR-DPD Session on 14 August

MPR Chairman Ahmad Muzani, alongside DPR Speaker Puan Maharani and DPD RI Speaker Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, held a joint meeting. This high-level gathering discussed the technical preparations for the MPR RI Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI. The strategic state agenda is scheduled to be held on 14 August. DPD RI Speaker Sultan Bakhtiar Najamudin stated that his institution has officially been appointed as the host for the Joint Session this year. This decision is the result of a mutual agreement among the leaders of the legislative bodies. Sultan confirmed that his party continues to maintain intensive communication to ensure the event runs smoothly. “Alhamdulillah, as leaders of the legislative institutions, we continue to coordinate so that the Joint Session can proceed according to plan. With this spirit of collaboration and solidarity, we aim to foster a more harmonious democratic atmosphere,” Sultan said in a written statement on Thursday (6/8/2026). The former KNPI activist explained that the agenda is held to commemorate the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence. The commemoration is scheduled to fall on 17 August 2026. This annual session is a crucial constitutional agenda for the institutional relationship between the legislature and the executive in the country. “As a dynamic democracy, we want this month of Independence to be filled with productive national agendas. We hope the Indonesian people can celebrate the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence with joy and order,” he concluded. As the host leader, Sultan will deliver the opening speech and chair the joint session this year. The sole agenda of the event is to listen to the State Address by President Prabowo Subianto. This state address will specifically delve into the government’s achievements over the past year. Sultan revealed that several important issues will be conveyed directly to the executive leadership. This is intended to strengthen development from the central to the regional levels. “Certainly, there are many matters we will convey directly to the President in the Joint Session speech later, covering geopolitical, national, and regional issues,” Sultan stated when asked about the content of his speech.
