DPD Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin has assessed that the current global situation is at a decisive crossroads. Sultan considers the free and active foreign policy principle embraced by Indonesia to be of great importance.

He conveyed this in his address at the 2026 MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday (14/8/2026). Sultan stated that because of this situation, all countries are redefining their respective priorities.

“Fellow countrymen and women across the homeland, the world is at a decisive historical crossroads. Geopolitical fragmentation is deepening. All countries are redefining their national priorities,” Sultan said.

Sultan noted that Indonesia’s free and active politics have become relevant amidst the current global situation. The DPD, he said, supports the diplomacy undertaken by President Prabowo Subianto.

“Herein lies its relevance for Indonesia, with the principle of free and active foreign policy being continuously pursued independently and proactively in line with developments in this new era,” he stated.

“The DPD RI fully supports President Prabowo’s international diplomacy in realising a peaceful and just world order,” he added.

Sultan said the DPD is also fostering inter-parliamentary cooperation with neighbouring countries. He mentioned that the DPD is initiating a regional senators’ forum in Southeast Asia.

“We are currently initiating the establishment of a Southeast Asia Senate Forum. Because Indonesia believes that the world cannot be sustained only by the strong, but by all nations that respect one another, and work together to preserve peace,” he remarked.
