DPD Speaker: China a Strong Partner for Indonesia in Realising Green Democracy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Najamudin, has described China as a strong partner in developing and realising the concept of green democracy for sustainable development that embraces the world. “We hope to cooperate with China and other friendly nations to develop green economic transformation policies that can balance development efforts with ecological sustainability,” the DPD Speaker said in his remarks at a reception at the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday. Calling the concept of green democracy for sustainable development a new paradigm he supports, Sultan assessed China as a country that has successfully developed effective environmental protection and sustainable development policies. Moreover, sustainable development in China has been able to proceed in harmony with the massively accelerated economic development across various sectors in the country. He specifically noted that China’s green economy sector, particularly the development of the green energy sub-sector, continues to grow rapidly. Therefore, according to Sultan, Indonesia should make China an example and partner in developing policies and implementing sustainable development and a green economy. Indonesia also views China as a partner whose cooperation is always enduring, based on the principles of friendship and mutual benefit. “Despite continuing to grow as an economic superpower with ever-expanding military strength, Indonesia does not see China as a threat, but rather as a trusted partner,” he said. The DPD Speaker viewed China’s success in aligning sustainable development with economic growth as proof of the country’s successful modernisation. Sultan also agreed with the Chinese government’s view that modernisation must be implemented by adapting to the values and conditions of a particular country. Therefore, no nation should impose a specific development model or strategy on another. “We welcome China’s modernisation, which has been ongoing for 105 years, given its significant positive impact on modernisation in Indonesia and other countries in the region,” Sultan added. The Chinese government designates the founding year of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in 1921 as the starting milestone of modernisation in the Bamboo Curtain country. The reception at the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta on Wednesday was intended to celebrate this occasion.
