DPD Speaker Appreciates Government Policy Giving Certainty to PPPK Teacher Status

DPD RI Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin has responded to the government’s plan regarding the fate of PPPK teachers. Sultan welcomed the plan.

“We appreciate the wisdom of the Government and, of course, the leadership of the DPR RI who continue to give special attention to the fate of PPPK and part-time PPPK. We hope this good news will increase the spirit of service of our brothers and sisters, the non-civil servant teachers and health workers in the regions,” Sultan told reporters on Thursday (20/8/2026).

Sultan assessed that the certainty of civil servant status is a form of state appreciation for public servants. He believes President Prabowo Subianto has a focus on justice-oriented policies.

“We must admit that the Government of President Prabowo Subianto has a concern for policies oriented towards the principles of justice and equity. That is a value that deserves appreciation as citizens of the nation,” he said.

Sultan is confident that the government has the fiscal space to finance its civil servants. He also believes that the policy of converting PPPK status will increase regional economic activity.

“I think with a state budget reaching 4,000 trillion, the Government has sufficient fiscal space to finance our civil servants. However, we also want to ensure that regional governments will not recruit honorary employees,” he stated.

Previously, Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform Rini Widyantini stated that the number of PPPK teachers currently reaches 955,245 people, while part-time PPPK working as teachers totals 231,246 people. The government also projects the national teacher requirement at 526,689 positions.

“Part-time PPPK will be given the opportunity to become full-time PPPK, which will be carried out in 2027,” said Rini.

Teachers with PPPK status will also be given the opportunity to take part in civil servant selection, with registration expected to begin in early 2027. The Minister of Finance stated that the scheme has undergone budget simulation and is considered feasible while maintaining fiscal sustainability. The deficit in 2027 is still projected at around 2.4%.
