Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Secretary General of the Regional Representative Council (DPperwakilan Daerah - DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, M. Iqbal, stated that employee health constitutes an institutional investment and is inseparable from the strength and productivity of an organisation.

Consequently, the DPD Secretariat General is encouraging a preventive approach by increasing employee awareness of health risk factors, including fatty liver, which is linked to obesity.

“I view employee health as part of an institutional investment. Therefore, I am requesting that every work unit conducts data collection,” Iqbal said at the DPD Building, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

A preventive approach is considered a crucial step to ensure employees have better awareness of their physical condition and are encouraged to implement lifestyle changes before health issues arise.

According to him, building a healthy living culture is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen the quality of human resources. A healthy working environment will have a positive impact on the productivity and work quality of the institution.

“We want the DPD Secretariat General employees to not only be healthy while working but to have the awareness to maintain health as part of their lifestyle. Healthy human resources are the strength of the institution, and therefore, efforts such as this must continue to be encouraged,” he said.

In relation to this, the DPD held a talk show themed “Maintaining Liver Health for a Healthier Life.”

This health education is part of the enhancement of healthcare services within the DPD environment, alongside the upgrading of the DPD RI Pratama Clinic to meet accreditation standards through improvements in facilities, infrastructure, and service quality.

The talk show speaker, internal medicine specialist Dr Gerry Permadi, explained that fatty liver is related to fat accumulation in the liver and is closely linked to obesity and metabolic disorders.

Iqbal noted that such diseases often do not present symptoms in the early stages, making early detection through health screenings essential.

“Fatty liver is not only related to what we eat, but also to how active we are. Maintaining weight, implementing a healthy diet, exercising regularly, managing cholesterol levels, and avoiding alcohol are important parts of maintaining liver health,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Head of the DPD Pratama Clinic, Emirianti, stated that health education is part of the effort to strengthen the prevention of metabolic diseases within the DPD Secretariat General environment.

According to her, metabolic health issues often go unnoticed due to the lack of symptoms in the early stages.

“Early detection and handling are very important through laboratory tests, radiological examinations such as ultrasound and Fibroscan, as well as follow-up examinations according to the patient’s condition,” said Emirianti.
