DPD RI Urges Perpetrators of Healthcare Worker Murders in Tambrauw to Surrender
Sorong (ANTARA) - Paul Finsen Mayor, a member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) RI for the Southwest Papua electoral district, has urged the perpetrators of the murder of healthcare workers in Tambrauw Regency to immediately surrender to law enforcement authorities.
“I urge the families of the perpetrators to act cooperatively and assist in handing over the culprits to the Southwest Papua Regional Police to expedite the legal process,” he said on Sunday.
According to him, the case is a pure criminal act that must be handled firmly in accordance with applicable law.
“The perpetrators must be arrested and prosecuted immediately. If they wish to surrender, that would certainly be better,” he stated.
He expressed readiness to coordinate with the police to pick up the perpetrators if there is good faith in surrendering, and to ensure the handling process is conducted professionally.
In addition, he commended the performance of the Southwest Papua Regional Police in managing the case, particularly their efforts in pursuing the perpetrators.
He also conveyed support for the leadership of the Southwest Papua Regional Police Chief, whom he views as prioritising a humane approach in maintaining security in the Papua region.
“I support the police’s steps in uncovering this case and arresting the perpetrators,” he said.
To date, police authorities are still pursuing several suspected perpetrators, so he could not provide more detailed statements as the investigation process is ongoing.
As a regional representative body, he will continue to carry out oversight and monitoring functions regarding the handling of the case to ensure it proceeds transparently and delivers a sense of justice to the community.
He hopes the case can be resolved soon so that the security situation in the Tambrauw area returns to being conducive.
Previously, the attack on four healthcare workers by unidentified persons (OTK) in Kampung Jokbu, Bamusbama District, Tambrauw Regency, Southwest Papua Province, took place on Monday (16/3/2026) around 11:37 WIT, resulting in the deaths of two victims.
In addition, the Southwest Papua Regional Police have secured 12 suspected perpetrators, namely TY (28), LY (57), SY (19), AY (44) Head of Banfot Village, MY (29) Head of Bamusbama Village, as well as BY, AY, TY, WY (49) civil servant, PY (49), YJ.
