The Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) will build a representative office in Serang City, Banten. The office is being constructed to make it easier for the people of Banten to convey their aspirations.

The groundbreaking ceremony was held at the project site on Jalan Jaksa Agung R. Suprapto, Serang City, on Wednesday (5/8/2026). The building will stand on land owned by the Banten Provincial Government, which will later be granted to the DPD RI.

The event was attended by DPD RI Speaker Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, along with Deputy Speakers Gusti Kanjeng Ratu Hemas, Yorrys Raweyai, and Tamsil Linrung. Banten Governor Andra Soni and Banten Police Chief Inspector General Hengki were also present.

Sultan Bachtiar stated that this office would serve as a forum for the public to voice their aspirations.

"It can be said to be a forum, a place, or a facility. A facility for the people of Banten to convey their aspirations, to express their thoughts, to lodge complaints, and to state their intentions through an official channel, namely DPD members," he said.

According to him, the construction of the office in Banten is something extraordinary. For Sultan, this office will become a platform for advocacy.

"A momentum as well as an existence to make this DPD RI institution, which is only 21 years old, into a strong, effective, and inclusive representative body, open to all the people it represents," he stated.

Sultan also expressed his gratitude to the Banten Provincial Government for financing the construction of the office.

"Without collaboration, it would be impossible for this building to stand. Because this building is financed by the provincial budget (APBD), while on the other hand, the land has already been preceded by a grant. So, the grant came first," he said.

Meanwhile, Andra Soni assessed that the construction of this building is a regional need, not a need of the DPD RI. He hopes that the aspirations of the Banten people can be more easily conveyed through this office.

"The construction of this building is a regional need, not a need of DPD members. Why do I say it is a regional need? It is mandated by law and is also a result of the reformation, that there is a DPD that brings regional interests. Not only the interests of its people, but also regional interests, in this case, the interests of the regional government," he said.
