DPD RI reminds universities in Papua to promptly form anti-violence task forces
Fakfak (ANTARA) - Committee III of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) RI has reminded all higher education institutions in Papua to actualise their commitment to forming anti-sexual violence task forces.
Chairman of Committee III DPD RI Filep Wamafma in Fakfak, West Papua, on Wednesday, stated that the task forces already formed must proactively conduct various educational and awareness activities to protect students from sexual violence practices.
“Most universities in Papua have already formed task forces and we will continue to monitor their implementation,” said Filep.
The task force members consist of lecturers, staff, and students, who not only focus on prevention efforts but also professionally handle sexual violence cases in their respective campus environments.
“We must be able to anticipate all sexual violence practices, especially now that technological developments are advancing rapidly, which certainly carries high risks,” said Filep.
This aims to support higher education institutions in becoming safe, inclusive, and free spaces from violence against women as well as other violence, such as bullying, discrimination, and intolerance.
“We want to restore the higher education environment to be free from various forms of violent actions or sexual gratification,” said Filep.
