Tanjungpandan (ANTARA) - A member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Darmansyah Husein, has assured that rice stocks for the people of Belitung in Bangka Belitung Islands Province remain secure to meet food needs for the coming months.

This was stated by Darmansyah Husein in Tanjungpandan on Saturday after inspecting the warehouse of Perum Bulog’s Belitung Branch.

“I ask the people of Belitung not to panic about shortages of rice and other food needs even though we are on an island, because the stocks in the Bulog warehouse are still safe,” he explained.

He stated that the geopolitical situation in the Middle East does not disrupt national food security because the Indonesian government is striving to increase production and carry out food diversification.

Darmansyah Husein suggested that the Belitung Regency government continue to boost local rice production to maintain Indonesia’s achieved food self-sufficiency.

The Head of the Perum Bulog Belitung Branch, Syahrianza Rahman, said that the stock of medium rice in the Perum Bulog Belitung Branch warehouse is available at 877 tons, premium rice 22 tons, and cooking oil 142,000 litres.

He assured that the stocks of rice and other basic needs for the community are sufficient to meet needs for several months ahead, and hopes that the public does not need to worry.
