DPD RI Calls OTT of Regional Heads in Central Java an Emergency

A member of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) has stated that the arrest of regional heads in Central Java through Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) sting operations has reached an emergency level. Throughout this year, five regents in Central Java have been apprehended by the KPK. As a DPD RI member from the Central Java electoral district, Kholik expressed deep concern over the rampant sting operations ensnaring regional heads in the province. He highlighted that five regents in Central Java have been caught in sting operations within just the last few months. “Frankly, in terms of numbers, we are very concerned. That is why I use the term ‘emergency’. Why? Because no other province has experienced this cumulatively,” Kholik said after attending a discussion titled ‘Central Java OTT Emergency’ at his office in Semarang City on Wednesday (5/8/2026). He acknowledged that he has seen efforts by the government, particularly the Central Java Provincial Government, to prevent corrupt practices within regency and city administrations. For instance, the Governor of Central Java once involved regents and mayors in signing an integrity pact. “However, that did not stop it from happening again. After the pact was signed, it happened twice more,” Kholik said.
