Jakarta (ANTARA) - DPD RI Speaker Sultan B Najamudin expressed his appreciation and respect to the House of Representatives (DPR RI) for accommodating the Bill on Archipelagic Regions in the 2026 Priority National Legislation Programme (Prolegnas).

According to him, for nearly nine years, or since 2017, the DPD RI has tirelessly proposed the Archipelagic Regions Bill in every Prolegnas from year to year.

“That long struggle has now turned sweet. The bill has officially been included in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas,” Najamudin said in his opening address at the Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI in 2026 at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Friday.

The same appreciation was also conveyed to President Prabowo Subianto for the commencement of deliberations on the Archipelagic Regions Bill in the 2026 Priority Prolegnas by the DPR RI.

According to him, the passage of the Archipelagic Regions Bill will become a legacy of the Prabowo Subianto administration.

“We are confident and believe that this bill will be passed as a historic milestone as well as an important legacy of President Prabowo’s administration in delivering development justice and strengthening Indonesia as an archipelagic nation,” he said.

He said that besides the Archipelagic Regions Bill, the DPR RI has also accommodated a number of other bills proposed by the DPD RI, including the Bill on Climate Change Management, the Bill on Indigenous Peoples, the Bill on Amendments to the Regional Government Law, the Bill on Regional Languages, the Bill on Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMD), and the Bill on Amendments to the Aceh Government Law.

“All of these DPD RI initiative bills are part of the Green Legislator agenda that we champion,” he explained.

In his address, Najamudin also conveyed the DPD RI’s oversight function, which goes directly to the regions to monitor the implementation of laws relating to regional autonomy, central-regional relations, natural resource management, the implementation of the state budget, taxation, education, and religion, including the organisation of the hajj pilgrimage.

“The DPD RI is committed to supporting the implementation of special autonomy for Aceh and Papua,” he said.

Najamudin emphasised that special autonomy funds must serve as an affirmation for indigenous communities, accelerate development in the outermost and highest regions, and strengthen regional fiscal independence.

On Friday, the MPR RI, DPR RI, and DPD RI held the Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR RI-DPD RI, one of the agendas of which was President Prabowo Subianto’s address for the delivery of the performance reports of state institutions and the State Address of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

In addition to the address, the government also screened a video of government performance achievements.

This annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme “A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia”.

This year’s Annual Session of the MPR RI was attended by the 7th President Joko Widodo, the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the 11th Vice President Boediono, and the 13th Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin, as well as Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, heads of institutions, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, Chief of the Indonesian National Police General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and a number of political party leaders.
