Jakarta – The Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI) has agreed to form a Special Committee (Pansus) on the Handling of the Papua Conflict and Humanitarian Issues. The Secretariat General of DPD RI released the information. The decision was made at the 10th Plenary Session at Nusantara V Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Friday, 22 May 2026. ‘In line with the DPD RI Leadership Meeting and the Plenary Session of the Working Committee (Panmus) for the 8th DPD RI held on 21 May 2026, the formation of the Special Committee on Handling the Papua Conflict and Humanitarian Issues is agreed,’ said the Chair of DPD RI Sultan B Najamudin on Friday. Najamudin added that the latest incident occurred on 14 April 2026 in Kembru District, Puncak Regency, resulting in civilian fatalities. ‘In addition to the fatalities, the conflict has forced tens of thousands of people to flee to safer areas,’ he said. ‘It also aims to formulate recommendations for a humane, dialogic resolution of the conflict, oriented toward the protection of civilians, human rights, and the acceleration of the social recovery and welfare of the Papua people on a sustained basis,’ he added.
