DPD: Prabowo's Economic Transformation Like Removing a Thorn from the Flesh

The Annual Session of the People’s Consultative Assembly of the Republic of Indonesia (MPR RI) and the Joint Session of the House of Representatives (DPR) and the Regional Representative Council (DPD) ahead of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence were held on Friday, 14 August 2026 at the Nusantara Building, MPR/DPR/DPD Complex, Senayan, Jakarta.

DPD RI Chairman Sultan Baktiar Najamudin stated that Pancasila has been bequeathed by the nation’s founders, who chose a unitary state form with regions as pillars. Provinces, regencies and cities are granted the authority to govern and administer their own affairs according to the principle of autonomy.

DPD RI appreciates the administration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabumingraka for taking strategic steps to restore state control over land, water and natural resources for the prosperity of the people.

President Prabowo’s economic transformation is like pulling a thorn from the flesh—painful yet essential to achieve a sovereign and prosperous Indonesia. The ‘thorns’ being removed include import dependence, low added value of natural resources, inefficiency and obstacles that erode national competitiveness.
