DPD Highlights Central-Regional Dynamics Through Book, Muzani Shares Message

The Chairman of the DPD Group in the MPR, Dedi Iskandar Batubara, presented a book titled ‘DPD RI di Tengah Dinamika Kedaerahan’ (The DPD in the Midst of Regional Dynamics) to MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani. The book reviews the DPD’s efforts and challenges in advocating for regional interests amid the dynamics of central-regional relations. The handover took place at the Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (5/8), during a Joint Leadership Meeting of the MPR, which discussed strategic agendas including preparations for the 2026 MPR Annual Session ahead of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian independence. Dedi explained that the book is an anthology compiling the ideas of DPD members, academics, and various figures regarding the DPD’s role as a state institution and a representation of regional interests within Indonesia’s constitutional system. ‘This book is a collection of writings from various authors that has been blended into a single entity. We want to build an intellectual tradition within the DPD Group in the MPR to continue contributing thoughts through written works that can serve as a reference for the public, academics, and policymakers,’ he stated. According to the Senator from North Sumatra, the book also examines the dynamics of the DPD’s struggle to strengthen its role as a regional representative body, through its legislative functions, provision of considerations, and oversight of the implementation of laws and government policies related to regional interests. Dedi noted that the dynamics between the central government and the regions continue to evolve, particularly amid budget efficiency policies, and that several regulations are still perceived as centralistic and not fully accommodating the characteristics and needs of individual regions. MPR Speaker Ahmad Muzani, in his foreword, expressed appreciation for the book’s publication, calling it an important reference for enriching the body of thought on Indonesia’s constitutional system. He highlighted the DPD’s strategic constitutional role and noted the book’s relevance in comprehensively reviewing various regional issues, from policy oversight and regional autonomy to food security, ecological disaster management, and the role of universities in national development. The 424-page book is a collection of writings by leaders and members of the DPD Group in the MPR alongside academics, compiled from public discussions.
