DPD Commits to Being an Institution that Weaves Regional Diversity
Chairman of the DPD RI, Sultan B Najamudin, has conveyed his institution’s commitment to being a body that weaves together regional diversity and strengthens national unity.
“For more than two decades, the DPD RI has consistently voiced regional aspirations with the spirit of ‘from the regions for Indonesia’,” said Najamudin during his introductory speech at the 2026 Annual Session of the MPR RI and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI at the Parliamentary Complex in Jakarta on Friday.
He said this commitment is demonstrated by making the DPD RI an effective, inclusive, and collaborative representative institution.
“We call it a ‘green parliament’. An institution that weaves regional diversity and strengthens national unity,” he stated.
He explained that the DPD RI serves as a home for 152 regional representatives from 38 provinces, representing nearly 80 million votes from regional communities.
According to him, with strong political legitimacy, the DPD RI has a moral and constitutional responsibility to be a bridge for the aspirations of regional communities to the central government, and to oversee central government programmes in the regions.
“Therefore, every national development agenda must be implemented in all provinces, felt in regencies and cities, have an impact in sub-districts and villages, reach small islands, outermost and underdeveloped areas, and be present in border regions,” said Najamudin.
