Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia (DPD RI), Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, has urged all parties to exercise restraint in responding to issues surrounding the escalation of conflict and war in the Middle East (Timteng). He assessed that the developing situation has disrupted stability among fellow Muslim countries amid the holy month of Ramadan. He stated that Eid al-Fitr should become a moment of unity for the Muslim ummah and Muslim nations. “Because Eid al-Fitr is a major holiday that symbolises and marks the return of the ummah to its pure nature,” said Sultan in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. As the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, he conveyed Indonesia’s profound concern over the war events that are disturbing regional stability. He also called on all conflicting parties to immediately halt hostilities for any reason whatsoever. On the other hand, he asked Indonesian society not to be easily influenced by issues related to the Middle East war circulating on social media. In this digital era and age of artificial intelligence, misinformation will only make the situation even less conducive. “Personally, I appreciate the stance of Muslim countries that do not worsen the situation by refraining from retaliatory attacks,” he said. Therefore, he invited Indonesian society and Muslims worldwide to focus on worship and welcoming Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah.
