DPD Chairman Says Preparations for 2026 Annual Session Nearly Complete
The Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, has confirmed that the entire series of preparations for the MPR RI Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR RI and DPD RI in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia has been running optimally. He stated that simulations and the final dress rehearsal have been completed and are ready to be carried out.
“Everything has been prepared, both the first and second rehearsals. The final dress rehearsal has just finished and preparations are 90 percent complete, involving all stakeholders. The event rundown has also been well measured,” said Sultan, accompanied by Deputy Chairman of DPD RI Tamsil Linrung and Secretary General of DPD RI Mohammad Iqbal, after reviewing readiness at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Thursday (13/8/26).
As the host of this year’s event, DPD RI has adopted a tagline that aligns with the national theme, namely ‘Strong Regions, Sovereign Indonesia’. Sultan emphasised that the foundation of Indonesia’s strength is rooted in the unity of all regions across the archipelago.
“The main key to the country’s strength lies in unity, where Indonesia will become sovereign if all regions are strong and solid,” he said.
In addition to technical readiness, Sultan also expressed full support for the appeal made by DPR RI Speaker Puan Maharani regarding the importance of maintaining proper conduct during the proceedings. He reminded that DPD RI and DPR RI belong to the same MPR RI family, and therefore it is only fitting that all members uphold the dignity and ethics of the high state institution.
“It is only proper that we maintain that conduct and ethics. I personally urge everyone to maintain that conduct and ethics,” he added.
He also expressed hope that tomorrow’s event will proceed safely, smoothly, and solemnly without any incidents or excessive behaviour that could potentially trigger negative perceptions among the public. To strengthen the national atmosphere, the series of events will also be accompanied by nationalist and struggle songs.
“Through this thorough preparation, the celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is expected to become a valuable momentum to strengthen the unity of all elements of the nation,” said Sultan.
