The Speaker of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin, has confirmed that preparations for the 2026 MPR-DPR-DPD joint session, to be held on Friday (14/8), are almost 90 percent complete.

Sultan made the statement after conducting a rehearsal for the session at the Nusantara building in the parliamentary complex on Thursday (14/8). He was accompanied by DPD Deputy Speaker Tamsil Linrung and DPD Secretary-General Mohammad Iqbal.

“We have just finished the rehearsal and preparations are 90 percent complete, involving all stakeholders. The event rundown has also been well measured,” said Sultan.

As one of the hosts, he also affirmed support for the appeal by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani, regarding the urgency of maintaining proper conduct during the proceedings.

He reminded that the DPD and DPR are both under the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), and therefore it is only proper that all members uphold the dignity and ethics of the high state institution.

“It is only fitting that we maintain that conduct and ethics. I personally urge everyone to maintain that conduct and ethics,” he said.

He expressed hope that tomorrow’s session would proceed solemnly without any incidents or matters that could potentially trigger negative perceptions among the public. To that end, he said, the programme will feature only nationalist and patriotic songs.

“Through these thorough preparations, the celebration of the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia is expected to become a valuable momentum to strengthen the unity of all elements of the nation,” said Sultan.
