DPD Backs President Prabowo's International Diplomacy

Jakarta (ANTARA) - DPD RI Chairman Sultan B Najamudin has expressed full support for President Prabowo Subianto’s international diplomacy in realising a peaceful and just world order. In his introductory speech at the Annual Session of the MPR and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI in 2026 at the parliamentary complex, Jakarta, on Friday, he stated that the world is at a decisive historical crossroads. According to him, geopolitical fragmentation is deepening, causing all nations to redefine their national priorities. “This is where the relevance lies for Indonesia, with the principle of a ‘free and active’ foreign policy that is continuously pursued independently and proactively in line with developments in this new era,” he said. He noted that the DPD RI is also involved in fostering inter-parliamentary cooperation with friendly nations. “We are currently initiating the establishment of a Southeast Asia Senate Forum,” he stated. He said this step was taken because Indonesia believes that world peace cannot only be sustained by the strong, but requires mutual respect between nations and cooperation to achieve peace. “Because Indonesia believes, that the world cannot be sustained only by the strong, but by all nations that respect one another, and work together to preserve peace,” he said. On Friday, the MPR RI, DPR RI, and DPD RI held the MPR Annual Session and the Joint Session of the DPR-DPD RI, which included an agenda for President Prabowo Subianto’s speech to deliver the State Institutions’ Performance Report and the State Address in the context of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to the speech, the government will also screen a video on government performance achievements. This annual session is a state agenda to welcome the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia, which carries the theme ‘A Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia’. The MPR RI Annual Session was attended by the 7th President Joko Widodo, the 10th and 12th Vice President Jusuf Kalla, the 11th Vice President Boediono, and the 13th Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin, as well as Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, agency heads, Attorney General ST Burhanuddin, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, and several political party leaders.
