DPD Anniversary: Chairman Hopes for Solid and Collaborative Parliamentary Institutions

The Chairman of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the Republic of Indonesia, Sultan Baktiar Najamudin, extended his congratulations on the 81st anniversary of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representatives (DPR).

“On behalf of the DPD RI institution, we convey our congratulations to our elder brothers, the MPR RI and DPR RI, on their 81st anniversary,” Sultan stated in a written statement on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Sultan expressed his hope that Indonesia’s parliamentary institutions would become increasingly inclusive and effective in performing their constitutional duties, while continuing to strengthen collaboration in overseeing various government programmes.

“We all certainly hope that our parliamentary institutions become more solid and collaborative in accommodating and following up on the aspirations of the community,” said Sultan.

According to Sultan, public demands on parliamentary institutions are steadily increasing, a phenomenon he noted is occurring in almost all democratic nations worldwide.

“Currently, public demands on parliamentary institutions continue to rise. This is happening in almost all democratic countries in the world,” Sultan explained.

The former activist of the National Committee of Indonesian Youth (KNPI) acknowledged that Indonesia still faces various challenges in the process of democratic consolidation.

“As democratic institutions, parliamentary bodies need to strengthen one another. Because in the current era of social media, the burden, patterns, and types of people’s aspirations are becoming higher and more diverse,” he concluded.
