Jakarta (ANTARA) - Joint personnel apprehended dozens of vehicles during a crackdown on illegal parking along Jalan Raya Matraman, Jatinegara, specifically in front of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort (Polres Metro Jaktim). “This morning, we went out again to check the parking violations on Jalan Matraman, particularly in the Jatinegara area. Therefore, we carried out enforcement,” said Head of the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Harlem Simanjuntak, after the action in front of the East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort on Tuesday. He stated that the illegal parking crackdown is an effort to discipline violations and smooth traffic flow. In addition, the raid is part of evaluating traffic conditions in the area. The dozens of vehicles caught included 10 motorcycles that were towed, four cars that were towed away for parking in prohibited locations, and 15 other cars subjected to valve stem removal as an alternative enforcement measure. Harlem explained that the valve stem removal was carried out due to limited towing fleet availability. Nevertheless, this action remains part of the enforcement against illegal parking violations. “Around 15 vehicles had their valve stems removed. This was done because our towing units are limited, so we used another method as a legal approach,” said Harlem. Furthermore, he explained that the vehicles that were actioned, whether by towing or impounding, will be handed over to the police, specifically the Traffic Unit of the local Police Resort, for the processing of examination report minutes (BAP). The raid activity is a routine operation involving cross-agency participation, from the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, DKI Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), to elements of the TNI and Polri. In the raid, the total number of deployed joint personnel reached 100 people, with details of 30 personnel from the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, 40 personnel from DKI Satpol PP, and 30 personnel from TNI and Polri elements. In addition to enforcement, Harlem also urged the public to comply with the established parking rules. He asked visitors to markets, post offices, health facilities, or shopping centres in the Jatinegara area to use the available official parking locations. “Please park in the designated places. Here, there is a market and Jatinegara Plaza that can be utilised,” Harlem stated. He also highlighted the increasingly crowded illegal parking around the post office due to social aid distribution activities. However, his side hopes that the condition is temporary and will return to order after the activity ends. In the future, the East Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department plans to carry out further arrangements along Jalan Matraman to create parking order and smooth traffic in the dense area.
