Dozens of students attack fellow students in Duren Sawit, leaving one seriously injured

Dozens of students were involved in an assault against fellow students on Jalan Malaka IV, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, resulting in one victim suffering serious injuries. “Yes, both the perpetrators and the victims were students. The victims were coming from that direction, and what I saw, they were already on the roadside being attacked,” said a local resident, Simon (33), in Jakarta on Wednesday. During the incident, the perpetrators not only fled with the victims’ motorcycle but also mobbed the two students who were riding it on their way home from school. The event was recorded by a resident’s camera and the video has circulated widely on social media. In the footage, a tense atmosphere is visible as two students heading home from school are stopped by a group of other students. Without much warning, the perpetrators immediately attacked the victims, resulting in a violent mobbing in the middle of the road. Local residents who saw the commotion initially thought it was a brawl between students. Some residents even tried to approach the scene to intervene and prevent the clash from escalating. However, upon getting closer to the location, they realised the incident was not a brawl but a robbery targeting two students passing through the area. Simon admitted he was shocked to see the number of students who swarmed the victims. According to him, the situation unfolded very quickly, making it difficult for residents to stop the actions of the perpetrators. “We initially thought it was a student brawl. After getting closer, it turned out the victim was being mobbed and their motorcycle was being taken away,” said Simon. As a result of the attack, one student suffered severe injuries, including lacerations to their arm and head. The victim subsequently received aid and was rushed for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the other victim managed to escape the pursuit of the perpetrators, though they experienced trauma from the event. Simon hopes the police force will promptly investigate this case and arrest the individuals involved in this act of violence.
