Dozens of streetlights in Cipinang Muara, East Jakarta, back on after theft
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Dozens of streetlights (PJU) along Jalan Laksamana Malahayati in Cipinang Muara, Jatinegara Subdistrict, East Jakarta (Jaktim), are back on after the theft of electrical components by irresponsible individuals.
“The PJU lights on Jalan Laksamana Malahayati in Cipinang Muara are now operational again, thanks to repairs carried out by the task force team,” said Head of the East Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department, Benhard Hutajulu, in East Jakarta on Thursday.
The repairs were conducted by personnel from the Yellow Task Force of the East Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department, who replaced several missing components.
Around 30 PJU points were non-functional after several components were stolen on Tuesday night (5/5).
Benhard noted that the handling process was faster than initially estimated. The repairs were originally predicted to take up to two days, but once replacement components were obtained, they were completed promptly.
The presence of these PJU lights is vital for supporting the safety and comfort of road users, particularly at night.
According to him, the impact of public infrastructure theft is directly felt by the wider community, especially road users passing through the area.
“If public facilities are damaged or stolen, it’s the public that suffers the consequences. Therefore, cooperation from all residents is needed to safeguard government assets,” Benhard stated.
Meanwhile, Head of the City Utilities Infrastructure and Street Lighting Section of the East Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department, Yanuar Ikhsan, explained that the reassembly of the main panel network K131 at the site involved 12 personnel from the combined Yellow Task Force from Jatinegara Subdistrict and the East Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department.
These officers, he added, possess technical expertise in electricity, allowing the PJU network disruption to be resolved quickly and accurately.
“The PJU that went out yesterday used 200-watt SS LED lights, but now everything is back to normal,” Yanuar said.
He also mentioned that the stolen components were not of high value. In addition to taking the main panel components, the perpetrators also stole cables under the panel to extract the copper wire, leaving the cable insulation at the site.
“The stolen components are cheap. They took the cables to get the copper, while discarding the cable sheathing,” Yanuar remarked.
The East Jakarta Road Infrastructure Sub-Department is requesting all Road Infrastructure Task Forces at the subdistrict level to enhance supervision in their respective areas.
If theft of public facilities is discovered, officers are urged to take immediate action and report it to the police.
“If a theft case is found, immediately apprehend the perpetrator and report it to the police so it can be processed according to applicable law,” Yanuar emphasised.
