Jakarta — A fire broke out at dozens of scrap material stalls and several residential homes on Permata Dalam Street, Tegal Alur, Kalideres, West Jakarta, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A resident named Saiman reported that the fire initially started from a scrap collection yard at approximately 3:30 AM. Within a short time, the flames spread rapidly to surrounding structures.

“The fire started from the scrap yard, around half past three in the morning. It spread quickly,” Saiman said.

According to Saiman, several homes located behind the scrap stalls were also consumed by the flames.

“There were homes in the back area, but I don’t know how many,” he noted.

The fire spread rapidly due to the abundance of flammable materials stored at the stalls. The blaze destroyed approximately 20 scrap stalls and spread to several nearby residential homes.

Residents and fire service personnel worked to extinguish the fire as it continued to burn. However, the large quantity of combustible materials hampered firefighting efforts.

As of the latest update, firefighting operations continued. Twelve fire trucks were dispatched to the location to control the flames.

No deaths have been reported, and the total loss remains undetermined. Additionally, the exact cause of the fire has not yet been established.
