Dozens of Riau Police Personnel Conduct Clean-Up at Dumai Bridge Ahead of Inauguration by National Police Chief
A bridge in Dumai Selatan District, Dumai City, is set to be inaugurated by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo. Dozens of personnel and community members conducted a clean-up around the bridge site. Police and residents cleared rubbish from the riverbanks surrounding the bridge. Silted river soil was dredged to prevent flooding. In addition to cleaning up rubbish, police and residents also worked together to beautify the riverbank area by planting trees and grass. The activity was carried out on Sunday, 5 July 2026. The Riau Police have completed 80 ‘Merah Putih Presisi’ bridges in phase II across various regencies and cities in Riau Province. To date, the Riau Police have built a total of 110 bridges in various remote areas. The completion of these 80 bridges serves as a special gift coinciding with the 80th Bhayangkara Day. The bridge is planned to be officially inaugurated by National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. The inauguration will be centred in Dumai City, specifically in Dumai Selatan District, and conducted simultaneously across all sub-regional police commands. The bridge connects Jalan Perintis RT 02, Bumi Ayu Village, and Jalan Bukit Datuk Lama RT 03, Bukit Datuk Village, in Dumai Selatan District. The bridge stands as a silent witness to a long history of supporting residents’ mobility. Built independently by the local community, the bridge was first constructed in 1984. After a decade, the bridge was renovated by the local government to increase its capacity. Over time, the wooden bridge decayed. In early June 2026, the Riau Police, together with community elements and the 10.11 Putra Peduli Foundation, renovated the bridge. All the main bridge structures were replaced with iron materials to make it sturdier and safer. Dumai Police Chief AKBP Angga Herlambang stated that the bridge’s rehabilitation in 2026 was crucial, given its position as a vital artery for access to various public facilities and the main educational centre in the Dumai Selatan area. ‘This inter-village connecting bridge is the main access for residents to the Bumi Ayu Sub-district Office, the Religious Affairs Office, the Bumi Ayu Community Health Centre, and the Correctional Institution,’ Angga said on Saturday (4/7/2026). The bridge also provides access for children to pursue their aspirations, including to SMKN 002, MAN Negeri 01, MTs, SMP and SMA Lancang Kuning, SDN 008 Bumi Ayu, SDN 004 and SDN 019, and Lancang Kuning University. ‘With the new iron-based structure, the Merah Putih Bridge is now ready to guarantee safety, smooth traffic flow, and support sustainable public service and educational activities for the Dumai Selatan District community,’ he explained. Meanwhile, the Riau Police Mobile Brigade Commander, who serves as the Emergency Bridge Task Force Commander, Commissioner I Gede Metut Adi Wibawa, said the bridge’s construction took 73 days and involved dozens of joint personnel from the Riau Police Mobile Brigade, Dumai Police, and community elements. ‘The bridge can now cut travel time by 15 minutes,’ said Commissioner Ketut.
