Dozens of primary school pupils in rural West Aceh still learning in emergency tents
The Education Office of West Aceh Regency has stated that around 50 pupils of Alue Lhok State Primary School (SDN), Pante Ceureumen District, are still learning in emergency tents following a flood disaster at the end of November 2025. “For the time being, the pupils are forced to study in emergency tents because most of their school building was damaged by the flash floods late last year,” said Acting Head of the West Aceh Regency Education Office, Teuku Putra Azmisyah, on Tuesday. He said the pupils have been forced to study in emergency tents as they have no other option for learning, since the existing school is completely unusable. Despite having to learn inside emergency tents, he said, the students remain comfortable following the learning process, including taking exams, which were completed on Monday (8/6). As a long-term solution, the West Aceh Education Office has also reported the damage to the school building into the disaster impact reporting system and hopes that the school building in the area can be rebuilt this year. “The information we have is that the damaged SDN Alue Lhok, Pante Ceureumen District, will be rebuilt this year by the central government. We pray that everything runs smoothly,” said Teuku Putra Azmisyah.
