The number of victims in a case involving alleged problematic investments, which implicates a former employee of PT Bank Mandiri Taspen (Mantap) KCP Purwokerto, Central Java, identified by the initials D, has reached 40 people. The victims have granted power of attorney to the Peradi SAI Purwokerto Law Clinic to fight for their rights, with total losses estimated to exceed Rp8 billion.

The rapid increase in the number of complainants has drawn public attention to the scale of the case. What was initially suspected to be an individual action is now raising questions regarding the effectiveness of supervision and customer protection within financial institutions. In a single day, at least 10 pensioners visited the legal counsel’s office to report their alleged losses. The influx of complaints over the past three weeks indicates that the case may affect many customers, particularly pensioners in the Banyumas Raya region.

Legal counsel for the victims, H Djoko Susanto, stated that the first report was received on 13 May 2026. Since then, the number of reporting victims has increased almost daily. “This shows that this case does not only affect one or two people. The victims are quite numerous and spread across various regions,” said Djoko on Tuesday (2/6).

Most of the complainants are retired civil servants (ASN) and veterans who rely on pension funds for their daily living expenses. The funds they accumulated through years of work are now allegedly unrecoverable. According to Djoko, many of the disputed transactions occurred while the reported individual was still an active employee of Bank Mandiri Taspen Purwokerto. Consequently, the legal team believes further investigation into the internal supervision system and customer protection mechanisms in place at that time is necessary.

In addition to the alleged fraudulent investment, the legal team also highlighted credit facilities received by several pensioners, ranging from Rp120 million to Rp350 million with tenures of 17 to 20 years. They claim this financing scheme has reduced the monthly pension income received, as a large portion must be allocated to credit repayments.

One victim, Sri, admitted her economic situation has become increasingly difficult after approximately Rp122 million she invested failed to be returned. “For my daily needs, I now only have about Rp200,000, even though I still have to meet family needs and my children’s education costs,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Purwokerto Office of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) stated it has taken steps to deepen its investigation into the alleged investment offerings involving the former employee. The Head of the OJK Purwokerto Office, Dinavia Tri Riandari, stated that they have summoned and examined several parties to obtain the necessary information. “OJK has conducted summons and examinations of several related parties. The results of these examinations will be followed up in accordance with OJK’s authority and applicable laws and regulations,” said Dinavia.

OJK will continue to monitor the development of the case and coordinate with relevant parties to ensure the resolution process follows the law, prioritising consumer protection. OJK also urged the public to be more cautious regarding investment offers promising high returns in a short period, advising them to verify the legality of providers and understand the risks of financial products before making decisions.
