JAKARTA (ANTARA) - Dozens of North Jakarta firefighters extinguished a house fire on Warakas IV Street in Tanjung Priok District on Wednesday, 27 May.

“When officers arrived, the fire had already grown, destroying one house and part of an adjacent building. The blaze is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit in a resident’s home,” said Gatot Sulaeman in Jakarta on Thursday.

The firefighting operation began at 11:00 PM WIB and the flames were contained by 11:22 PM WIB. After cooling down, the operation was fully concluded at midnight.

“There have been no fatalities or serious injuries reported in the incident,” he said.

A total of 14 fire trucks and 70 personnel were deployed to tackle the blaze for two hours. “We received the fire report at 10:58 PM WIB and successfully extinguished it by midnight,” he said.

The preliminary cause is suspected to be an electrical short circuit that ignited the structure on a 50-square-metre plot. “The estimated damage to the victim amounts to Rp370 million,” he said.

Gatot urged residents to remain vigilant and regularly check their home electrical installations to prevent similar incidents. “We ask residents to ensure that electrical cables meet standards and avoid overloading power sockets,” he said.
