Dozens of Merchants from Southwest Papua Attend PSBM Makassar, Explore Investment Cooperation...
Makassar – Dozens of merchants from Southwest Papua have enlivened the Bugis Makassar Merchants Meeting (PSBM) in Makassar, bringing a mission to broaden business networks and open up inter-regional investment cooperation opportunities, particularly in the agriculture, fisheries, and tourism sectors.
The Chairman of KKSS Southwest Papua, Ir. H. Muhammad Said, S.T., IPM., M.Pd, revealed that the number of registered participants from West Papua has reached 54 people, most of whom are entrepreneurs playing a role in driving the economy in West Papua.
According to him, PSBM is not merely a gathering for Bugis Makassar migrants to reconnect, but also a strategic forum for exchanging ideas, opening business opportunities, and building business collaborations among merchants from various regions in Indonesia.
“On average, those of us attending are entrepreneurs. So, we are indeed the ones driving the economy there. Through PSBM, we hope for an exchange of ideas, business opportunities, and collaborations with merchants from other regions,” said this entrepreneur from Sidrap Regency to Makassar.terkini.id on Wednesday, 25 March 2026.
He explained that Southwest Papua is known for its world-famous Raja Ampat tourism. However, the economic potential of West Papua is not limited to the tourism sector, but also includes agriculture and fisheries, which have vast opportunities for development.
“Besides tourism in Raja Ampat, the potential in West Papua lies in agriculture because the land is still extensive, and also fisheries which have enormous potential. These are opportunities that can be collaborated on with entrepreneurs from other regions,” he clarified.
Muhammad Said also emphasised the importance of building synergies with local communities and all Nusantara communities in West Papua so that economic development can proceed together and sustainably.
“Wherever the earth is trodden, there the sky is upheld. So, we must build synergies with local communities and all Nusantara communities there so that the economy can grow together,” he said.
He hopes that through PSBM, merchants from various regions can share business opportunities, strengthen business networks, and promote inter-regional economic cooperation that impacts economic growth, particularly in eastern Indonesia and West Papua.
“Our hope with PSBM is certainly to bring blessings to us all. We can share business opportunities, strengthen relationships, and build inter-regional economic cooperation,” he concluded.
The Bugis Makassar Merchants Meeting itself is known as a forum for reconnection and business networking among Bugis Makassar entrepreneurs throughout Indonesia, playing a role in promoting investment, trade, and regional economic development in various parts of Indonesia.
