Dozens of illegal structures in Jati Pinggir, Central Jakarta, to be cleared next week

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Central Jakarta city administration will next week clear dozens of illegal buildings on Jalan Jati Pinggir along the Banjir Kanal Barat (BKB) in Petamburan Urban Village, Tanah Abang District, as part of efforts to develop green open space (RTH).

Petamburan Urban Village Head Rian Hermanu said around 30 street vendor stalls and five community organisation posts would be demolished in the operation.

“The plan is for the clearance to take place next week. There are around 30 vendor stalls and about five community organisation posts that we will dismantle,” Rian said in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He said the operation is being carried out to support the area’s redevelopment, which will be implemented by the Central Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-department.

According to Rian, the move also has the support of local residents.

He explained that warning letters to the occupants of the illegal buildings had already been issued by the Central Jakarta city government, while the clearance itself will be led by the city-level Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP).

“Warning letters have been issued by the Central Jakarta city government. Later, the clearance will be carried out by the city-level Satpol PP,” Rian said.

The operation will involve Satpol PP, the Parks and City Forest Sub-department, the Water Resources Sub-department, the Highways Sub-department, the Environment Sub-department, Tanah Abang District, and Petamburan Urban Village.

“The leading sector is the Central Jakarta Parks Sub-department, which will immediately begin redeveloping the area after the clearance,” Rian added.

Meanwhile, Head of Central Jakarta Satpol PP Purnama Hasudungan said his office had sent warning letters to the occupants of the illegal buildings and would complete all administrative stages before the demolition proceeds.

He expressed hope that the clearance process would proceed in an orderly and conducive manner so that the development of green open space in the Jati Pinggir area could begin promptly, improving environmental quality and public comfort.

“Warning letters will be issued, up to the third warning. We plan to deploy 200 joint officers,” Purnama said.
