Dozens of illegal structures in Jati Pinggir, Central Jakarta, to be cleared next week

The Central Jakarta Administrative City Government will soon clear dozens of illegal structures on Jalan Jati Pinggir, Banjir Kanal Barat (BKB), Petamburan Urban Village, Tanah Abang Sub-district, next week as part of a green open space (RTH) arrangement. Petamburan Urban Village Head Rian Hermanu said approximately 30 street vendor (PKL) stalls and five community organisation (ormas) posts will be demolished during the operation. “The plan is for the clearance to take place next week. There are around 30 vendor stalls and about five ormas posts that we will demolish,” Rian said in Jakarta on Wednesday. He stated that the clearance is being carried out to support the area arrangement that will be implemented by the Central Jakarta Parks and Urban Forest Sub-agency. According to Rian, the move has also received support from the surrounding community. He explained that warning letters to the occupants of the illegal structures have been issued by the Central Jakarta City Government, while the clearance operation will be led by the city-level Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP). “Warning letters have been sent from the Central Jakarta City Government level. Later, the clearance will be carried out by the city-level Satpol PP,” Rian said. The clearance will involve the Satpol PP, the Parks and Urban Forest Sub-agency, the Water Resources Sub-agency, the Bina Marga Sub-agency, the Environment Sub-agency, Tanah Abang Sub-district, and Petamburan Urban Village. “The leading sector is the Central Jakarta Parks Sub-agency, where after the clearance, there will be immediate area arrangement,” Rian added. Meanwhile, Central Jakarta Satpol PP Head Purnama Hasudungan said his party has sent warning letters to the occupants of the illegal structures and will soon complete all administrative stages before the demolition is carried out. He also expressed hope that the clearance process can proceed in an orderly and conducive manner so that the RTH arrangement in the Jati Pinggir area can be implemented immediately to improve environmental quality and public comfort. “Later, warning letters will be given, up to the third warning letter. We plan to deploy 200 joint personnel,” Purnama revealed.
