Dozens of Housewives Trained to Earn Their Own Income

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The Yayasan Indonesia Setara (YIS) is collaborating with Skies Indonesia to create empowered housewives. The two organisations recently held a training session attended by 49 participants on making dimsum mentai and Thai desserts at Tamini Square, Pinang Ranti Ward, Makasar District, East Jakarta.

YIS founder Sandiaga Uno stated that since its establishment around 15 years ago, YIS has had a vision of empowering communities, particularly women, to have equal rights in working and earning income. “This women’s empowerment programme aims to enable housewives to generate their own income. The participants are trained so they can sell products to support their family economies,” said Sandiaga in Jakarta on Friday (3/4/2026).

According to him, the housewives are not only taught how to make dimsum mentai and Thai desserts but also how to use artificial intelligence (AI) to start selling immediately. “Using AI, they can create logo designs or captions for online sales. So they can sell right away and make a profit,” Sandiaga remarked.

In the Kick-Off Programme session, participants were taught hard skills in making dimsum mentai and Thai desserts. These two menus were chosen because they use cheap, easily obtainable ingredients that can be modified according to the seller’s preferences. Additionally, participants were taught to use the ChatGPT application for creating content and were challenged to open preorders on the same day.
