Dozens of Forest and Land Fires Hit Majalengka, Residents Urged to Remain Vigilant

The dry season is posing a serious threat to the Majalengka Regency area. As of late August 2026, dozens of hotspots have ignited forest and land areas within the region.

Data from the Majalengka Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) records that at least 49 forest and land fire incidents have occurred between January and 24 August 2026. One of the most recent incidents scorched land in the Cirahayu Block, Baribis Village, Cigasong District, on Friday evening (28/8/2026).

“Dozens of forest and land fires have occurred in Majalengmu Regency,” stated the Head of Majalengka BPBD, Agus Tamim, yesterday.

Agus urged the public to increase vigilance in facing the peak of the dry season, which is forecast to last until October 2026. The increasingly dry weather conditions are considered highly vulnerable to triggering forest and land fires, even from minor negligence.

“With the weather becoming increasingly dry, even a small flame can trigger a forest and land fire,” Agus emphasised.

Meanwhile, Wawan Suryawan, a First Expert Disaster Management Officer in the Emergency and Logistics Division at the Majalengka Regency BPBD, explained that the fire occurring on Friday (28/8/2026) scorched approximately 3.5 hectares of land.

“There were no casualties resulting from that land fire,” Wawan concluded.
