Dozens of ex-prostitutes ready to work

PALU, Central Sulawesi: Simon Pangalo, chairman of Kejora Charitable Agency, said here on Tuesday that at least 40 former sex workers had undergone training and had obtained skills to fill vacancies both in the formal and informal sectors in the regency.

Simon said the prostitutes were rounded up during a raid in the city of Palu and Donggala regency, had received three months training in cooking, table laying, sewing and makeup, and moral teaching.

Data from the Ministry of Health in the province reveals that 626 prostitutes have been trained over the last three years, 113 of whom married while in the training center, 390 returned to their families, 58 become housemaids and 65 others work as entrepreneurs.
