Dozens injured during student brawl

KUPANG, East Nusa Tenggara: At least 500 students from two local universities became locked in a brawl on Wednesday morning, leaving dozens of students injured. The brawl also damaged two buildings of the Nusa Cendana University law school.

Police arrested two students charged of instigating fellow students to become involved in the brawl. One was students is from Kupang Polytechnic and the other from the school of law at Nusa Cendana University.

The brawl broke out after a number of drunken students from Kupang Polytechnic and attacked students from the Nusa Cendana University school of law on Tuesday. Later on Wednesday morning, the polytechnic students, whose campus is only some 200 meters away from the university's school of law, again attacked the school of law, beating students and vandalizing the buildings.

The attack ended in a large-scale brawl that involved some 500 students from both sides. -- JP
