Dozens Evacuated from Flood-Hit Areas in Padang

The Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) evacuated dozens of residents trapped in flood locations in Padang, West Sumatra, on Monday (3/8).

Head of BPBD Padang Hendri Zulviton explained that flood victims in Padang were being moved to safe locations. “So that residents can be taken out of the flood location and moved to a safe place,” he said in Padang on Monday (3/8).

BPBD Padang carried out the evacuation of flood victims in Kuranji District, specifically at Lapau Manggu, RT 002/RW006. In that location, around 35 families required evacuation.

Prolonged heavy rainfall caused water to inundate residential areas in several parts of Padang. The evacuation process for flood victims in Padang was conducted using rubber boats, assisted by local residents and other joint agencies.

BPBD Padang urged the public to remain vigilant against potential hydrometeorological disasters triggered by heavy rain. Residents were also asked to monitor official weather information from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and to immediately report any disaster incidents, such as flooding in Padang, through the Padang City BPBD emergency service so that handling can be carried out more swiftly.
