Downstream Investment Reaches Rp147 Trillion, Dominated by This Sector!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Todotua Pasaribu, stated that downstream investment reached Rp147 trillion in the first quarter of 2026, experiencing an 8.2% year-on-year growth. He revealed that minerals were the main contributor to this figure, including coal, gas, and oil, while plantations and forestry were the second largest contributors. “We must also not forget that we are a large maritime country. We are also encouraging the concept of downstreaming in the fisheries and marine sectors,” he explained during CNBC Indonesia’s Economic Update on Wednesday (24/6/2026). He emphasised that the downstreaming programme has brought significant growth, both quarterly and annually, to investment realisation. “Downstreaming also contributes nearly 30% to the total investment realisation figure,” he said. According to Todotua, downstreaming is not only applied to mining commodities. This agenda is carried out to add value to various domestic commodities. The downstreaming agenda is also pursued to drive economic growth, employment absorption, and knowledge transfer. “As a large country with a population approaching 300 million, we also have an interest in managing our demand and consumption costs. So, through downstreaming, we achieve self-reliance and can also suppress and manage our national consumption costs,” Todotua clarified. Furthermore, the downstreaming agenda will also be implemented to develop the green energy and renewable energy sectors. Currently, the government is still formulating the roadmap for this downstreaming initiative. “In the context of green energy or new and renewable energy, we also need to mitigate how we can manage entry into this context so that we can be more competitive and the business can be more sustainable,” he added. “So, we need to develop downstreaming so that all production, all processing, and all capabilities of the business line-up can be carried out in our country,” he concluded.
