Dossiers of BNI suspects completed

JAKARTA: The National Police has completed and submitted to the Prosecutor's Office the dossiers of three BNI officials named suspects in the Rp 1.7 trillion (US$200 billion) scam after more than four months of investigation.

Prosecutors will have two weeks to study the dossiers of former BNI Kebayoran Baru branch manager Kusadiyuwono, former Kebayoran Baru branch operational manager Nirwan Ali and former Kebayoran Baru branch foreign customer head Edi Santoso, then will decide whether the cases are ready for trial or request more evidence.

"We are completing the investigation with the hope that we can bring these people to trial as soon as possible. But we will do so in order and bring the (bank) officials first," National Police chief of detectives Com. Gen. Erwin Mappaseng said on Friday.

The police have detained 11 other suspects, who are businesspeople.

Erwin said police had added BNI Region 10 deputy head Nurcahyo to the list of suspects after several rounds of interrogation, and was close to naming his superior, region head Heru Sardjono, a suspect. -- JP
